World Champion
Luke Littler could be set for a striking change on stage. The English number one has hinted he may soon step up to the oche with new darts and a refreshed shirt following his recent mega deal with manufacturer Target.
Littler
signed a contract reportedly worth £20 million with the brand last month, shortly after winning the World Darts Championship for the second time. The move followed his split from former manager Martin Foulds in October.
According to the teenage prodigy, this marks a new phase in his career. "Martin at ZXF, he done absolute wonders for me. Got all the deals for me and the best price," Littler told
talkSPORT. “He’s had a good career and I wish all the best to him."
The focus now is fully on working with his new partner. “Now we look forward to what we’ve got to do with Target and see what plans they have. New darts, new shirts and see what comes out for the next 10 years."
Keep testing, but the base stays the same
While changes are on the horizon, that doesn’t mean Littler will immediately ditch his trusted setup. He has already experimented with prototypes, including during exhibitions and tournaments in the Middle East, but remains cautious about adjustments.
“That’s what my dad always says to me. If it’s not broke, then don’t change it," said Littler. "You’ve seen through the years I’ve tried with the gold darts, I’ve tried with the World Championship darts, but nothing seems to work apart from the Gen One’s."
He doesn’t rule out innovation, though. "So I’ll stick with them, but if any new darts come out, I’ll obviously test them out. The new ones that are coming out, I’ll still practice with them at home and if I can find some sort of form, then I can take it to the stage."
Also outspoken on Manchester United
Beyond darts, Littler also spoke about his other big passion: football. As a Manchester United fan, he revealed which player he’d like to see return to the club. “Bring Marcus Rashford back, please. Thank you,” he said about Marcus Rashford.
The darter has followed the forward for years. “I still remember his first Premier League match against Arsenal. When Mourinho came in, he played with Zlatan and Rooney. And when he got the number ten shirt, he was unbelievable that season up front with Martial.”
According to Littler, the England international doesn’t follow him on social media, but he says he has a solution. “I don’t think so. But I’ll pay his wages for a week, sort VIP tickets, and then he can head back to the Stretford End,” he joked.
