Former professional darter Matt Edgar has made a striking statement about the future of
Beau Greaves. According to the Englishman, the 22-year-old from Doncaster will become the first woman ever to win a PDC major. A bold prediction, but one that Edgar believes is entirely justified based on her development and performances.
Greaves, nicknamed “Beau ‘n’ Arrow,” has been the dominant force in women’s darts for years. Earlier this year, she put together an unprecedented streak by winning 113 matches in a row in the
Women’s Series, claiming the last 17 tournaments of that cycle. It underscores her consistent level and mental resilience.
But her qualities have long extended beyond the women’s circuit. Greaves also proved in youth and open tournaments that she can compete with the absolute world elite.
During the PDC World Youth Championship, she beat, among others, Luke Littler, the current world number one. She also recorded wins over players like Gian van Veen and Josh Rock, while showing she could compete with world-class stars such as Luke Humphries.
“Top 16 is realistic”
On the
Mission Darts Podcast, Edgar stated his belief that the sky is the limit for Greaves. “I think top 16 is realistic for Beau Greaves," he said. “I think she’s going to be the first ever female to win a major title. I think she will win one. She’s still young. We’re talking about a quality operator here who can compete with the top 32 and has beaten the best players in the world. So, with that, absolutely, I think she’ll win a major title."
“She’s got years ahead of her. But it’s going to take a little bit of time," added Edgar. "It’s going to take a transition. She’s still not a player who believes in her own ability 100 percent.”
That's very much a message for the future though. For now, Edgar urges Greaves to keep her feet on the ground. “We also need to remember she’s never won a game at Ally Pally, and she was there this year again. So to suggest she’s going to go Premier League is a world apart," he says, although caveats that with an eye to the future. "Will she get in the Premier League? Yes."
“I’ve spoken to her management team about this as well, and I’ve given them full credit for this, because I think they need a lot of credit for how they’ve managed Beau over time," adds Edgar. “They have managed her absolutely perfectly. If you want sustainability and longevity, you don’t get that with rapid acceleration and progress. It needs to be, you need to learn, you need to develop."
Beau Greaves has held a PDC Tour Card since this season
That is why he also praises Greaves’ management. In his view, her career has been built in exemplary fashion: first dominance on the WDF Tour, then phased entry into the Women’s Series, followed by appearances on the Development Tour and Challenge Tour, and ultimately outings on the Pro Tour. That gradual rise should ensure she not only breaks through but also stays at the top for years.
Edgar’s conclusion is clear: Beau Greaves has everything it takes to make history. The question is not whether she can win a major, but when. If her development continues at this pace, it seems only a matter of time before a woman finally breaks through the PDC’s glass ceiling.
