It was a hugely important session for some of the top players in their attampt to qualify for the European Championships. Chris Dobey,
Rob Cross, and Raymond van Barneveld stormed to victories, whilst
Dave Chisnall was dealt a huge blow by the five-time World Champion in the
Hungarian Darts Trophy.
Barney sprant out of the blocks, averaging over 107 as he took a 3-0 lead. Chizzy stopped the rot with a clinical 79 checkout on double 11, but he failed to get a sniff for the rest of the match as Barney kept him at arm's length. He sealed the match with a majestic 144 checkout, concluding with a massive 107.97 average in one of his best European Tour displays.
Dobey had a tough test in the form of Darren Beveridge, who defeated Wessel Nijman yesterday. He took the lead before finding himself 3-1 down against Ice Cold. Both players struggled on their doubles throughout the match, but Hollywood upped the gears at the right time and went on a five-leg winning streak to send himself through. The win sees him jump into the qualifying places for Dortmund.
Cross also clinched an important win, averaging over 102 in a brilliant 6-3 win against World Cup winner Daryl Gurney. Voltage found his range on the 18 segment early, finding two trebles to set him up on tops for a show-stopping 148 checkout early on. He continued this impressive form throughout, sealing the match with a 78 checkout.

Wright dumped out
Kim Huybrechts found himself 5-2 ahead of two-time World Champion
Peter Wright, who was averaging 79. However, Snakebite mounted a comeback, overcoming multiple missed match darts from his opponent to force a last-leg decider. Huybrechts upped the gears and pinned double 16 to send the Scot home.
It was better fortunes for fellow Scottish darter Cameron Menzies, who missed 15 darts at double in his 6-4 win over Ross Smith, but 14 of them were in one hilariously bad leg, where Smith won it with a 31 darter in the Madhouse. The Scot overcame this as he impressed with his newly-found resilience and composure on the oche.
Despite Ryan Joyce celebrating his 40th birthday today, Martin Schindler was merciless in dumping out his opponent. He replicated his recent European Tour form, winning five legs on the spin to book his place in the third round.
James Wade hit a 135 and a 156 checkout in a 6-3 win over Luke Woodhouse, while Danny Noppert squeezed past Rob Owen in a last-leg decider, previously missing match darts but managing to get over the line. The Welshman's chances of returning to Alexander Palace were dealt a huge blow with that defeat.
