Lourence Ilagan took the title Sunday at the third edition of the PDC Asian Championship. It is the first time that Ilagan, who did have 11 Asian Tour titles to his name, managed to win this tournament.
Ilagan had easily made it through the pool phase on Saturday by defeating Royden Lam (5-1) and Woonghee Han (5-2). Sunday, the tournament continued with the knockout phase and there, 'The Gunner' managed to win over John Marco Lumilang (5-3), Reynaldo Rivera (6-4), Jenn Ming Tan (6-1) and then Sandro Sosing (7-3).
By winning the PDC Asian Championship, Ilagan secured the top prize of $15,000 and entry to the Grand Slam of Darts. Winning the PDC Asian Championship also carried a World Championship spot, but the Filipino dart player already had that in his pocket through the Asian Tour. Losing finalist Sandro Sosing and semifinalist Lok Yin Lee can also make their appearance at the World Darts Championship in December.
