Luke Humphries is into the semi-finals of the 2023
World Grand Prix after producing a miraculous comeback to see off Peter Wright and is one game away from another major final.
Humphries came from two sets down to see off Wright 3-2 and showed some of his best bottle to claim it in sudden death against a resurgent 'Snakebite'. He will face Chris Dobey or Joe Cullen in the semi-finals.
Humphries started off with a hold of throw in a great start to the tie. Wright levelled up on double 20 and he hit an 80 checkout to go one away from the opening set.
He hit a 13-darter on double 18 to seal the set. Wright hit double 20 to hold and lead the second set. Humphries hit back with an 80 checkout to make it 1-1. Wright went 2-1 up with a 100 checkout and he prevailed on double 20.
An 89 checkout from Humphries saw him lead the third set with a hold. Wright responded with one of his own. Humphries missed darts to hold but Wright couldn’t get a shot at 100 and the former held for 2-1.
Humphries hit 68 for the set to make it 2-1 down. Wright hit a 68 checkout to hold throw. Humphries held under big pressure with a 133 checkout nestled in the corner of double eight. A 92 checkout saw Humphries go one away and throwing to send it to a deciding set.
Wright wrestled the darts away with 160, 140, 100 to leave 101. He missed it though on double 18. Humphries couldn’t hit 118 and Wright returned for double 18 to go one away from the match.
Wright couldn’t get a shot at 160 for the match with Humphries ready on 69 for the match but he missed double 16. Wright though missed more match dart and Humphries hit double four to send it all the way.
Humphries missed 170 on the bull but returned for 45 to lead for the first time. A 109 checkout saw Humphries went one away. A 96 checkout kept Wright alive. Humphries expertly set up double 20 for match darts incoming and hit double 10.
