Now 17, Luke Littler spent most of the past six months being the sporting teen prodigy becoming a worldwide phenomenon and he leaned into that in a hilarious message to Spain star Lamine Yamal on social media platform X on Tuesday.
Yamal who is 16 was excellent in Spain's semi-final win over France and his brilliance at such a young age had some calling him the Spanish Luke Littler. He posted a photo with a well known meme 'how am I doing boss?' which usually gets wheeled out when a moment goes viral and usurps another previous top moment.
Yamal became the youngest player to socre in Euros history when he curled an effort from 25 yards to stun everyone inside the Allianz Arena at the age of just 16 years and 362 days as Spain now await England or the Netherlands in the final.
Littler similarly defied his age to mix it with the game's elite. He burst onto the scene at the World Darts Championship making the final and since then has become Premier League champion. He will face off against Michael van Gerwen in the first round of the 2024 World Matchplay which begins on Saturday.
His opener though isn't pencilled in until Monday though with a blockbuster double header. Second up will be Michael Smith v Gary Anderson before the titanic tussle between two darting juggernauts. Albeit as many have quipped, it would have more prestige perhaps if it hadn't been played dozens of times this year already. A landmark clash, it has been frequent in the Premier League and World Series.
But Littler will hope also that this Yamal moment will take some of the attention off him with the sporting world going crazy for the story of 'The Nuke'. He edited a picture depicting himself in the heavens looking over the Spaniard saying: "How am I doing, boss?" before Littler replied: "You're doing a great job, son... a great job."
