On Friday night, Luke Littler made history at the Alexandra Palace by becoming the youngest player ever to win the PDC World Darts Championship. The 17-year-old Englishman defeated Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final.

Littler left no stone unturned in the final against Van Gerwen and quickly gained a 4-0 lead in sets. Afterwards Van Gerwen got into his rhythm a little better and was able to come more into the contest, but there was no spectacular comeback and Littler eventually won very comfortably 7-3. Littler thus breaks Van Gerwen's own record as the youngest winner of the PDC World Darts Championship. A testament to Littler's youth is the fact he's actually seven years younget than Van Gerwen, who was 24 when he captured his first world title in 2014.

Littler's achievements capture the imagination in the darts world, but also far beyond. Immediately after his World Championship final win, "The Nuke" also received congratulations from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Keir Starmer. "Mesmerising performance from Luke Littler to win the World Darts Championship," Sir Starmer said in a statement. "Congratulations Luke on being the youngest ever PDC World Darts Champion."
