Jermaine Wattimena was no match for
Luke Littler in the second round of the
Flanders Darts Trophy on Saturday night. Wattimena played a fine match, but Littler was in a class of his own with an average of 111.
After five legs, Wattimena was averaging 110 himself, but was looking at a 4-1 deficit. Before that, the 17-year-old Littler had thrown two 14-darters and a 12-darter, among other things. In between, Wattimena threw a 107 checkout for a 12-darter. In the sixth leg, Wattimena missed five chances to make it 2-4, after which Littler punished these misses hard with a 105 finish. Wattimena did not recover from that blow. Littler thundered on and put a 13-darter to make it 6-1.
Luke Humphries has made a successful return to the Euro Tour. Saturday night, the reigning world champion won 6-3 over Ritchie Edhouse in the second round of the Flanders Darts Trophy. For Humphries, it was his first appearance since the World Series in Down Under. Afterward, Humphries went on holiday to Turkey with his family. On his comeback, Humphries threw an average of 100.66 and a strong finishing percentage of 60 percent.
The first seven legs of the match all went with the darts. Then Humphries threw out 60 for the break and a 5-3 lead. The Englishman was then allowed to throw for the match and did not fail. With a 14-darter, the world number one took the win.
Ricardo Pietreczko will also be back in the third round of the Euro Tour tournament in Antwerp on Sunday. The German, last year's surprising winner of the German Darts Championship, triumphed 6-5 against
Andrew Gilding. Pietreczko gained a 4-3 lead after an early 0-2 deficit, and two breaks in a row then made it 5-4 for the German. Gilding then forced a leg-decider with a 25 finish. The final leg was then victorious for Pietreczko with a 16-darter.
