Luke Woodhouse has advanced to the third round of the 2024 Flanders Darts Trophy at the expense of Gerwyn Price. Woodhouse won 6-5 over the Welshman on Saturday night at the Euro Tour tournament in Antwerp.
For Price, he experienced another disappointing performance on the European Tour. Just like last week at the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim, 'The Iceman' was eliminated in the second round.
After Woodhouse won the first leg, there were no fewer than five breaks in a row. The last one was in favour of Woodhouse, who made it 4-2 with an 11-darter. This was followed by a 154 finish for a 5-2 lead. Price halted the Englishman's run with a 16-darter in the eighth leg. The Welshman then came back to 5-5 with a 15-darter and a 14-darter. Price even had a chance to win the match in the final leg, but missed the bullseye. Woodhouse then threw out 76 for the win.
Elsewhere, Danny Noppert saw off Raymond van Barneveld. It was the second time this season that the two Dutchmen faced each other on the Euro Tour. They also met at the Baltic Sea Darts Open, when the win went 6-5 to Noppert. This time the match was a lot less exciting. Van Barneveld surrendered his own leg right away in the first leg, but immediately broke back with a 13-darter. Then followed the third break in a row after Noppert threw a 12-darter into 'Barney's' leg.
With a 13-darter, Noppert then doubled the margin. A leg then broke in which many darts at double were missed. Van Barneveld missed six chances to keep his own leg, while needing six chances to take a double break. Noppert then made it 5-1 with an 18-darter in the sixth leg. Van Barneveld then briefly kept himself in the match via a 14-darter, but then had to concede after a 13-darter from Noppert.
Stephen Bunting made it to the last sixteen at the Flanders Darts Trophy in strong fashion. Bunting defeated his English compatriot Scott Williams 6-3. The Bullet recorded an average of 104 and a finishing percentage of 40 percent.
