Few players in the past have managed to completely dominate the PDC circuit, but what
Luke Littler is producing right now is exceptional by the highest standards.
The teenage Englishman currently holds the title at no fewer than seven of the eight most important ranking majors on the calendar. With that, he is already writing a remarkable chapter in modern darts history.
Impressive run launched at the 2025 World Darts Championship
Littler began his impressive run by winning the
PDC World Darts Championship in 2025, where he was crowned world champion. That success was quickly followed on other major stages. He also captured the title at the
UK Open, the tournament known as the “FA Cup of darts” due to its open format and the vast breadth of the field.
Littler was also unstoppable at the iconic summer showpiece, the World Matchplay. At the Winter Gardens he showed that he not only has talent, but also the mental strength to perform on the biggest stages. Later in the season, he added another outstanding victory at the World Grand Prix, the unique double-in double-out tournament where many top players struggle to find their rhythm.
It didn’t stop there. Littler also added the Grand Slam of Darts to his résumé. He then claimed the Players Championship Finals, the tournament where the best players from the ProTour face off against each other.
In addition, Littler won the revamped
Winmau World Masters, taking his tally to seven major ranking titles. That shows his dominance is not limited to one type of tournament or playing style.
Van Veen denies Littler a perfect sweep
Strikingly, there is only one major currently not in Littler’s hands. The
European Championship belongs to
Gian van Veen. For the Dutchman, that title marked a major breakthrough at the highest level and, for now, he is the only player to break Littler’s stranglehold on the majors.
Gian van Veen won the European Championship last year
The fact that one player holds seven of the eight major ranking tournaments at the same time is a rarity in the sport’s history. Even in the dominant eras of legends like Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen, such a situation hardly occurred.
The question now hanging over the darts world is simple: how long can Littler sustain this unprecedented dominance? One thing seems certain — the young Englishman is currently setting a standard that forces the rest of the world’s elite to go to the absolute limit.
