Jonny Clayton sealed one of the final wins before the Christmas break at the PDC
World Darts Championship seeing off Danny van Trijp in impressive fashion.
Wayne Mardle discussed 'The Ferret' post match and how his form hasn't been replicated from last year which he believes was always going to be difficult to do.
"The first set was a bit iffy, second and third were great. That will please him. A bit of time off now and when you do come back from Christmas, it does feel like another event. You've got the first or second one out the way and that's done and dusted," said Mardle. to Sky Sports.
"He's not played badly this year, he won so many events in 2021, that was always going to be seemingly impossible to replicate."
"It's weird you can win and think that hasn't done me any favours. The sapping wins are no good, they can knock you. That wasn't a confidence sapper, that's a confidence booster."
