Mark McGeeney only just kept his Tour Card mainly due to Harry Ward resigning from the tour and Danny Baggish losing to Glen Durrant at the World Championship.
Speaking on the Weekly Dartscast, he wants to make sure he’s not in that position ever again.
“It’s a lot of relief to have kept my Tour Card. I had a really bad 2020 on the dartboard. I didn’t play well at all and my confidence went. I’m going to work hard to make sure I’m not in that position again,” said McGeeney to the Weekly Dartscast.
The 48-year-old particularly lost a lot of weight last year using his lockdown well. “I put myself on the scales just before Christmas 2019 and I was 20 and a half stone. I didn’t like it. I cut out the junk food and now I’m down to 14 stone. I’m eating the right food and I feel a lot better now.”
McGeeney reached the 2018 BDO World Championship Final and even missed a dart for the title in an iconic tie against Glen Durrant on the Lakeside stage.
“It’s all great memories from Lakeside and I hope one day some sort of darts can return there. It’s sad that it’s not there anymore.”
