With the darts calendar briefly easing off, Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries seized the chance to visit the iconic British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The two global stars swapped the oche for the paddock and clearly enjoyed a day packed with speed, spectacle, and famous faces.

Among the stars
Silverstone was all about Formula 1 last weekend. In addition to thousands of racing fans, numerous celebrities were on hand to experience Britain’s biggest motorsport event up close. Van Gerwen and Humphries found themselves right among the stars and received an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the race weekend.
For Michael van Gerwen, the trip also led to a notable encounter. The three-time world champion posed with Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi. A photo appeared on social media showing the pair standing relaxed side by side, much to the delight of both darts and music fans. Capaldi, who has achieved worldwide success in recent years with hits such as Someone You Loved and Before You Go, is among the many famous guests who descend on Silverstone each year.
Reigning world champion Luke Humphries was also out and about around the circuit. He clearly enjoyed the Formula 1 atmosphere and took time to explore the teams and facilities up close. It again underlines how popular the British Grand Prix is among elite athletes from a range of disciplines.
He was seen in the VIP Drivers Lounge on his Instagram stories with a video of the simulators albeit unlike Van Gerwen didn’t choose to do a post about it. Instead he reposted pictures either fans who met him at the circuit.
Humphries is currently set to take the remainder of time off before next week’s World Matchplay and will not take part in the ProTour or the European Darts Open this week. Albeit given his recent form, he will certainly be a favourite for the Phil Taylor Trophy.

Connection between darts and motorsport
The presence of Van Gerwen and Humphries is hardly a surprise. Darts and motorsport have grown increasingly close in recent years. Formula 1 drivers often express their fondness for darts, while many darters in turn are eager to attend a Grand Prix whenever their schedule allows.
Both sports share a vast base of passionate supporters and stage events where entertainment and elite performance go hand in hand.
Lewis Capaldi has previously attended the World Darts Championship
Lewis Capaldi is no stranger to darts. During the recent World Darts Championship, the singer was also present at Alexandra Palace for the semi-finals between Luke Littler and Ryan Searle, and Gian van Veen and Gary Anderson. Capaldi was there alongside the well-known British influencer Angry Ginge, who is a close friend of Luke Littler.
For Van Gerwen and Humphries, it was above all a relaxed day away from the oche before the focus fully returns to a busy darts season. With a special meeting with Lewis Capaldi, a behind-the-scenes look at Formula 1, and Silverstone’s unique atmosphere, both darters can look back on a successful outing.
The 37-year-old Dutchman can now turn his attention to the World Matchplay, the next major on the calendar, which gets underway on 18/7/2026 at the iconic Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
