Michael van Gerwen made it a hattrick of wins in the 2024 Premier League as he defeated
Nathan Aspinall in the final in Newcastle.
Van Gerwen started his evening with victory over Gerwyn Price, before coming through a close encounter with new-found rival Luke Litter. Aspinall defeated Michael Smith and Rob Cross to pick up his first wins in this year's Premier League.
The Dutchman was broken in the first leg and out of sight in the second as Aspinall found himself 2-0 up in the blink of an eye. But 'The Green Machine' won the next three legs, which included back-to-back 11-darters, to put the match back on throw.
Aspinall had a valiant attempt at a 154 checkout, agonisingly missing double 17 and it was all he was afforded as van Gerwen clicked into gear with a 10-darter. Another hold forced his opponent to have to win the next four legs, but Aspinall showed his typical fighting spirit, steadying the ship and then attacking the van Gerwen throw with a 170 checkout to raise the roof. The Dutchman kept his composure though, seeing out the match on double 18 to win his third Premier League Night in a row.
