Michael van Gerwen has taken the win in Birmingham, sealing the weekly Premier League Darts title with a 6-3 victory over Luke Littler in the final this Thursday night.
En route to the final, Littler first defeated Rob Cross in a last leg decider in his quarter-final before prevailing via the same scoreline in a Premier League Darts classic against Luke Humphries in the semi. Van Gerwen meanwhile, took the win over Nathan Aspinall in his opener (6-4), before firing past Michael Smith in the semi-finals (also 6-4).
In the final itself, whilst van Gerwen got off the mark early with an 18-darter, the Dutchman was cutting a frustrated figure up on stage and as Littler held throw to level, then broke via his old favourite, double 10, 'Mighty Mike's mood was not helped at all. A brilliant 125 checkout sparked some life into the three-time world champion though, as he levelled at 2-2.
With both men fair from their best, a scrappy fifth leg went the way of Littler as he broke again to nudge back in front. You felt a mid-match spurt from either player could win them the match and as van Gerwen reeled off the next two legs in succession, 'MVG' suddenly looked in control. Breaking throw in next leg via double 10, van Gerwen then moved within one of victory. Moments later that win was secured, final score 6-3 to Michael van Gerwen.
