The level was not outstanding on Thursday during the third round of play in
Premier League Darts. In the end,
Michael van Gerwen was the least, best of the bunch, capturing his second consecutive weekly title.
Afterwards, Van Gerwen immediately referred to the disappointing level in Glasgow. ''We didn't throw well today,'', Van Gerwen opened cynically to Viaplay. ''It didn't run and it didn't fall. I was able to do the right things at the right times, though.''
Van Gerwen had won against Peter Wright (6-2) in his first match with an average of 89. He then also defeated Rob Cross (6-4) and Luke Humphries (6-5). In the final against Humphries, 'Mighty Mike' recorded an average of 93.85.
It prompted Van Gerwen to mock his Premier League Darts rivals afterwards. ''I just made fun of them all. If you couldn't beat me today, you won't beat me next week either,'' laughed the seven-time Premier League champion.
