Michael van Gerwen has become the last quarter-finalist at the European Darts Championships. 'Mighty Mike' took on Ricardo Pietreczko and thousands of whistling German fans in the hall, but silenced the German crowd by beating Pietreczko 10-7.

The level difference in averages was quite big (104 to 95), but Pietreczko managed to keep up with the Dutchman for a long time by producing at the right moments. 'Pikachu' did this with a 167 finish in the first leg and an 80 check-out in the fifth leg to lead 3-2.
In the second session, Van Gerwen raised the level considerably. With a 10-darter and a 140 finish, 'Mighty Mike' quickly took over the lead and a 14-darter and an 82 finish gave him a 6-4 lead going into the second break.
Pietreczko reduced the deficit with a 72 check-out, but Van Gerwen continued to hold. In part by throwing a 145 finish in the 14th leg for 8-6. Finally, Van Gerwen finished it off beautifully with a 110 finish for the match in the seventeenth leg.
That means three Dutchmen will be in action on Sunday afternoon during the quarter-finals of the European Darts Championship. Van Gerwen will face compatriot Gian van Veen. Danny Noppert will face former world champion Gerwyn Price.
