Michael van Gerwen clinched victory at the
German Darts Grand Prix this past Monday, winning the fourth event of the 2025 PDC
European Tour. In the final held in Munich, 'Mighty Mike' defeated fellow Dutchman Gian van Veen 8-5 to claim his first ranking title of the year - a rare late start for a player of his calibre.
Despite a slow beginning to the season, Van Gerwen extends one of the most remarkable streaks in darts. Since 2012, he has won at least one PDC
Pro Tour title every year - tournaments that include both Players Championship and European Tour events.
That consistency becomes even more impressive when looking at finals appearances. Van Gerwen has reached at least one Pro Tour final every year since 2009, underscoring his long-standing dominance on the circuit.
Recent months have been challenging for the Dutchman, but this weekend's win puts an end to his winless spell in 2025. At the height of his powers between 2015 and 2018, Van Gerwen reached an astonishing 55 Pro Tour finals, winning 47 of them. He also collected numerous major titles during that golden era.
Looking ahead, Van Gerwen will not be competing at the Austrian Darts Open this weekend. Alongside several other top players, he’s opting for a well-earned break.
