Mol sets no expectations for debut year on PDC ProTour: "I just want to play this year free without any pressure"

Damian Mol recently won a Tour Card at PDC Q-School. The 23-year-old Dutchman is set to join the PDC ProTour for the first time this season.

“My first thought was certainly not to return home after three days. We had travelled to Niedernhausen in Germany with three players and I certainly didn't want to be the only one who would not survive the first phase. Fortunately, on the first day I immediately made it to the semi-finals and I was sure of qualification for the final phase, so I could sleep in quietly for the next two days and practice some extra", Mol told Darts Actueel.

That final phase also started very well for Mol. “Once again I reached the semi-finals on the first day. The next two days, however, I lost 6-5 in the second round each time and knew it was going to be a tough final day. Still, I didn't worry, I knew I had to make it to at least the last sixteen. In the end I also succeeded by beating Ronny Huybrechts in the last 32. I was even so elated that I almost forgot that I had to play another match (Mol lost to compatriot Jimmy Hendriks, but the Tour Card was in)."

Play without pressure

The first Pro Tour weekend of the year will take place in Barnsley, England, on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 February.

“It's something completely new for me, but I'm really looking forward to it. I will train very hard for the next few weeks. I don't set any specific goals for myself, I just want to play this year free, without any pressure and then we'll see what comes of it," concludes Mol.
