Jeffrey de Graaf advanced to the last 64 at the
World Darts Championship on Tuesday afternoon by defeating Ritchie Edhouse in a comeback victory. De Graaf was down 0-2 in sets, but prevailed 3-2 after an epic fightback.
It was his seventh participation at the World Darts Championship. First three times at Lakeside, and now four times at Alexandra Palace. However, it was only the first time De Graaf managed to win a match.
""It feels great. I've been looking forward to winning a game on the Ally Pally stage. I've qualified a few times now, so to get my first win, it's a dream come true,'' he said in conversation with SportsBoom.
In his previous six World Championship appearances, De Graaf still played on behalf of the Netherlands. Meanwhile, he has a Swedish passport in his pocket. Since 2019, he has officially lived in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, where his girlfriend is from.
De Graaf was allowed to play on the PDC Nordic & Baltic Tour this season and managed to qualify for the Ally Pally through this circuit. ''I moved back to Sweden to allow me to play more games and qualify for more tournaments. It always been hard for me to travel around and access all the tournaments. But with the Nordic Tour, it makes it more affordable for me.”
However, De Graaf will make another attempt to win another PDC Tour Card in January. In that case, he will also be allowed to compete in Pro Tour tournaments again.
"My game is good enough to be a tour card holder, but it's just very inconsistent at the moment. I just need to play a steady stream of competitive games to increase my consistency. Unless I progress to the latter stages of this tournament, I’ll definitely be participating in next year’s Q School," De Graaf concluded.
