Nathan Aspinall likely out until September or October dependent on World Matchplay run due to 'tennis elbow' type injury

Nathan Aspinall defeated Luke Woodhouse on the opening night of the 2024 World Matchplay in a 10-8 win but in reality, the defending champion will perhaps be hoping for an early exit given the injury bombshell he dropped prior to his win.
Aspinall spoke to Viaplay before he defeated the debutant and admitted that he will be taking a break after the tournament. He will have some type of therapy to get over his injury which he said will be very painful and could see him out until October if he goes on a run at the World Matchplay.
Something that he has sacrificed by even playing in Blackpool. Already Aspinall won't play the World Series in Australia next month and so will likely target a return towards the World Grand Prix or at latest Grand Slam of Darts later in the season. He has long suffered with an arm injury which he has said is worse than his wrist travails which nearly saw his career end two years ago.
"This is my last event for a few months. I've got like a form of tennis elbow. I've got severe swelling in my tendons and ligaments in my elbow. I need something called shockwave therapy to heal it," said Aspinall to Viaplay.
"It's six to eight weeks of intense treatment. It's going to be quite painful what I have to go through. After that it's two weeks recovery then I'm back at it. I've got my first appointment booked in on Friday if it all goes wrong at the Matchplay I can start it straight away."
"If I have a decent run, it'll be three to four weeks before I can start it. If I have a decent run which is what I want I probably wouldn't be back in action until mid October. If it all goes wrong, I could be back middle of September."
