Martin Schindler capped off a superb weekend by winning the 2025
Austrian Darts Open on Sunday night, defeating former European Championship winner Ross Smith 8-4 in the final in Graz. The 28-year-old German secures his second ranking title of the year and continues his rise up the world rankings.
Schindler enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2023, winning his first PDC titles at the International Darts Open and the Swiss Darts Trophy. He has built on that success this year, adding a Players Championship victory and now another title on the
European Tour to the growingly impressive resume of the German number one.
The latest triumph on Sunday night means Schindler has now captured four
Pro Tour titles since the start of the 2024 season — matching the tallies of superstar talents
Gary Anderson,
Dave Chisnall,
Chris Dobey,
Josh Rock, and
Michael van Gerwen. In fact, only the current world champion
Luke Littler has managed to collect more Pro Tour titles over the same time frame, with six Pro Tour titles to his name.
The Pro Tour comprises the Players Championship events and European Tour tournaments, with major TV tournaments not included in the count. Schindler is still chasing a first major title or even a first final on the big TV stage; his best showings came in 2023 when he reached the quarter-finals at both the UK Open and the World Grand Prix.
Thanks to his victory in Austria last weekend, Schindler has climbed to 18th in the PDC Order fo Merit, further establishing himself as the leading German talent of the moment.
The 2025 European Tour resumes next weekend with the European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen, where Schindler will look to continue his excellent run of form and go back to back on the Euro Tour with another title win.
