Michael van Gerwen has qualified for the third round at the
Hungarian Darts Trophy in Budapest. 'Mighty Mike' discovered European Championship winner
Ross Smith in the second round.
Van Gerwen started the game strongly and managed to take a 3-0 lead thanks to two 14-darters. Moments later it was 5-2 via a beautiful 121 finish for a 12-darter. But things got exciting after that.
An 11-darter by Ross Smith made it 3-5 and then he broke Van Gerwen with an 18-darter. The Englishman was allowed to start the tenth leg, but he was not out within five innings. Van Gerwen did with a 14-darter to take the win.
Besides Van Gerwen, reigning world champion
Michael Smith also managed to secure a spot in the last sixteen of this Euro Tour tournament. Bullyboy' lost a 5-1 lead against
Jose de Sousa, but in the end the final score was 6-4.
