After knocking out James Wade last year,
Jim Williams has caused another giant killing with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over
Peter Wright.
In one of his traditionally festive
World Darts Championship attires, Peter Wright was given a big welcome as he entered the stage. It was Williams who took the opening set however, thanks in big part due to a pair of bullseye finishes in the first and fifth leg.
In equally traditional scenes, Wright changed darts at the first break. There wasn't any initial change in performance levels however as Williams took the opening leg of the set. Wright though did fight back to win the next two legs but then seven set darts came and went. Williams punished to send the set to a decider and in that fifth leg the Welshman would take it to move two sets clear.
For the third set came a third set of darts for Wright. Williams though kept plodding on untroubled and via a 70 checkout, broke the throw to begin the set. With a 60 checkout in leg 2, the Welshman made it four on the spin to move one away from the win. Cleaning up 48 in two darts it was victory for Williams.
