Ricardo Pietreczko added to the German darts party at Alexandra Palace. 'Pikachu' defeated Callan Rydz 3-2 and became the fourth German to reach the last 32 at the
World Darts Championship.
Pietreczko did just a little better than Rydz in all areas. The German recorded an average of 99 versus 96 for Rydz. Pietreczko's finishing percentage was also better (50 to 28 percent).
The first set was a 3-0 win for Pietreczko, who then saw Rydz throw a strong second set. Via a 15-darter, 12-darter and a 14-darter, the second set went 3-2 to the Englishman.
Then it was Pietreczko again who breezed through the motions. He convincingly took the third set 3-0 after two 15-darters and a 112 finish. Rydz then forced a deciding set by winning the fourth set 3-1 via a 128 finish.
The key point then became the second leg of the final set. Rydz was not out in five visits, and was broken after a 112 check-out from his German opponent. Pietreczko was allowed to throw for the match, and he finished it off nicely with a 15-darter. After Christmas, Pietreczko will face Luke Humphries in the third round.
