The
Premier League Darts play-off race reaches a critical point in Birmingham tonight, with
Luke Humphries,
Michael van Gerwen,
Gerwyn Price and
Gian van Veen all still caught in the fight for the final two O2 places.
Luke Littler and Jonny Clayton are already safely through to Finals Night in London, while Josh Rock has been eliminated. That leaves Price, Humphries, Van Gerwen, Van Veen and, mathematically at least, Stephen Bunting battling for the remaining spots with just two league nights left.
Humphries currently holds the final qualification place on 19 points after reaching the final in Leeds last week. Van Gerwen is only one point behind him, Van Veen is three back, while Price remains third on 21 but is still not completely safe after a difficult recent run.
That makes
Night 15 at the Utilita Arena one of the most important nights of the season.

Birmingham could settle the top four
The clearest route to a locked-in top four comes through Humphries. If the reigning Premier League champion wins the night in Birmingham, while Van Gerwen and Van Veen both lose their quarter-finals, Humphries would secure his place at the O2. In that scenario, Price would also be guaranteed a play-off spot.
Bunting’s equation is even more severe. He sits seventh on 13 points, six behind Humphries, and faces the world number one directly in the quarter-finals. Lose there, and his slim hopes are over. Even a win may not be enough unless it leads into a deep run, with Bunting realistically needing at least a final appearance to take the battle to Sheffield.
Van Gerwen and Van Veen have simpler short-term tasks. Both need to win their opening matches to keep control of their own hopes. Van Veen begins against Rock, while Van Gerwen faces Price in what could be the defining tie of the night.
For Van Gerwen, the timing is fascinating. He arrives in Birmingham fresh from winning Players Championship 15 in Leicester, his first ranking title in more than a year. His 7-0 semi-final demolition of Martin Schindler, sealed with a huge 122.34 average, suggested his best form may have returned just in time.
Price still under pressure despite third place
Price remains in a strong position, but not an entirely comfortable one. The Welshman is third on 21 points and likely needs only one more win across Birmingham or Sheffield to make his place at the O2 safe. Two wins would remove any doubt completely.
Yet recent weeks have made his position feel less secure. Humphries has closed the gap, Van Gerwen is lurking just outside the top four, and Price has admitted he has been battling issues away from the board while trying to stay in the play-off picture.
His quarter-final against Van Gerwen is therefore huge for both players. A Price win would move him closer to safety and deal a major blow to Van Gerwen. A Van Gerwen win would drag the race even tighter heading into the final night.
At the top, Littler continues to set the pace. His remarkable Leeds victory, secured through three straight deciding-leg wins, moved him to 39 points and gave him a five-point lead over Clayton. The pair meet in the final quarter-final in Birmingham, with Littler chasing a fourth straight nightly win and Clayton looking to close the gap at the summit.
Gerwyn Price saw his big cushion evaporate in recent weeks
