From Nov. 7 to 10, 24 German darters will compete in the PDC Europe Super League in Bitburg, Germany, for a place at the PDC World Championships at Alexandra Palace.
The tournament begins with four groups of six players. During the first two tournament days, players play twice against the other players in their group. After these games, the two worst-performing players drop out. The remaining sixteen players continue in a elimination schedule. The last sixteen will take place on Nov. 9, after which the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will be played consecutively on Nov. 10.
Recently, the draw was made for this event. In this article, we take a look at the players in Group B. It is the pool of
Pascal Rupprecht, Liam Maendl-Lawrance, Marcel Gerdon, David Schlichting, Andree Welge and Paul Krohne.
The 23-year-old Rupprecht is the only Tour Card holder in this group. Rupprecht, who by his own admission has only been playing "serious" darts since 2022, went to the Q-School for the first time in early 2023 and earned his Tour Card there. It is his debut in the PDC Europe Super league. The fact that the PDC Europe Super League is broadcast on German television should not be a reason for Rupprecht to be nervous. He was on the podium at two PDC European Tour tournaments in 2023, so he is already familiar with the cameras. At the European Darts Grand Prix, Rupprecht made it to the last 32.
Maendl-Lawrance, at 19 years old, is another young talent who has emerged in Germany this year. He competed in the Euro Tours four times this year and made it to the last 32 twice, although Maendl-Lawrance stood out especially with his particularly slow throwing style. The 20-year-old David Schlichting is another young player in this pool. He was mainly in action on the PDC Challenge Tour and Development Tour this year.
Paul Krohne is another twenty something in this group. Like Rupprecht, the 22-year-old German has only been playing darts since 2022. He has no experience at the PDC yet, but that could change now with his participation in the PDC Europe Super League.
Marcel Gerdon is also only 24 years young. Gerdon only played the Q-School and some Euro Tour qualifiers this year, but without success. He did play on the Development Tour in 2022 and there Gerdon managed to reach one final.
The odd man out in this group is Andree Welge. At 51, he is the nestor in this group. The German competed once at Lakeside in the past and played five times at the PDC's World Darts Championship.
