Gerwyn Price has handed Michael van Gerwen his third defeat out of the last four Premier League nights and has improved his chances of a potential play-off spot after a brilliant display.
Price won 8-4 in the end with three ton plus finishes and 8/11 on the doubles as he defeated Van Gerwen - who by his own admission hasn't been at his best and squeezed past Nathan Aspinall last night.
'The Iceman' who is known for having not the best record against the World Number One aimed to diminish those hopes early doors as he went into a 4-1 lead with a 112 average.
Mighty Mike was put into real trouble as he was down 5-1 after missing two darts at doubles and Price punished. A 100 and 122 checkout from the Welshman continued in that vein; as he made sure of a definite point at 7-2 up.
Van Gerwen came back though into the contest claiming back to back legs to put doubt in Price's mind; but the latter got over the line with a 92 checkout (Bull, 2, double 20).
