After the US Darts Masters, we have a new leader on the World Series Order of Merit. Despite not yet winning a World Series tournament this year, Gerwyn Price is the new ranking leader.
Earlier this year, he lost in both the final of the Bahrain Darts Masters and the Nordic Darts Masters. At the US Darts Masters, Gerwyn Price surprisingly lost in the quarter-finals, but it was enough to surpass Michael Smith in the rankings. Indeed, 'Bullyboy' went down in the first round in New York. Price now has 19 points, followed by Bahrain Darts Masters winner Smith in second place with 18 points.
Peter Wright, winner at the Nordic Darts Masters earlier this year, lost like Smith in the first round of the US Darts Masters. 'Snakebite' could only add one point to his total, but is still third with 16 points.
The Scot is now trailing Michael van Gerwen, winner of the tournament in New York. Van Gerwen earned twelve points with this, giving him a big jump on the World Series Order of Merit. Losing finalist Jeff Smith entered the list with eight points, which is now good for eighth place. However, the Canadian has not been invited to the remaining World Series tournaments this year and is likely to drop quickly down the rankings.
Jonny Clayton, like Jeff Smith, has eight points, ahead of Rob Cross (13 points), Luke Humphries (11 points) and Dimitri van den Bergh (nine points).
All participants in a World Series tournament can add as much as one point to their total. This is the number one gets for losing in the first round. Quarter-finalists are guaranteed three ranking points.
A place in the semi-finals already earns five points anyway. The finalists are guaranteed eight points. This is the number of points the losing finalist receives. The winner of a World Series tournament receives 12 points.
The results are included in the World Series of Darts Order of Merit. This is especially important at the end of the World Series season. The numbers one to eight can prepare for participation in the World Series of Darts Finals anyway. This tournament will take place from 15 to 17 September at the AFAS Live in Amsterdam.
