Gerwyn Price took home the title at the
International Darts Open on Sunday night . In the final 'The Iceman' settled with his rival
Michael van Gerwen (8-4).
It is Price's second Euro Tour victory in a short time. At the end of March, the Welshman also won the European Darts Open in Leverkusen. His new title in Riesa got another special touch. He entered the history books as the winner of an anniversary edition, because it was the hundredth tournament in the history of the European Tour.
In the final against Van Gerwen, the Welsh darts player made the difference in the doubles. Van Gerwen had more chances on the doubles than Price, but the Dutchman missed no less than seventeen of the 21. Price needed nineteen arrows on the doubles to win his eight legs.
''Michael wasn’t at his best today. He missed a couple of doubles and those crucial doubles have got to go in if you want to win tournaments'', Price reacted afterwards.
The former world champion saw himself performing at the crucial moments. ''Thankfully I’ve been scoring well and those crucial doubles have been going in, because on another day it could have been a different story. I am sure it was a great game for the crowd. Michael is a great player and he will come back, so I’m happy to win this one.''
Speaking of the fans, they were again on the side of 'The Iceman' during this tournament, who seems to be gaining more and more fans. "I think I'm half German now," Price jokes. ''I’ve been getting great support over the last couple of months and it is showing on the board. I know I’m playing well and I’m putting players under pressure.''
