Peter Wright is through to the final of the 2024
German Darts Championship in Hildesheim after outlasting
Dave Chisnall in a tight and tense semifinal this Sunday night.
After each of the first two legs went with the darts, it was Wright who bagged the first break of the contest in 19 darts and then held in 14 darts, moving 3-1 clear as a result. Firing back with an 11 darts leg of his own, Chisnall sent the message he wasn't going to be wiped away easily however.
With both players returning holds of throw over the next few legs, Wright looked the heavy favourite to take victory at 5-3 ahead. Again though, Chisnall refused to go down without a fight, and with back to back 15 darters, restored parity at five legs apiece.
Chizzy still needed to break once more to get the win though. At te first time of asking, Wright held firm in 12 darts to move one leg from victory. Then, as Chisnall attempted to hold throw and force a deciding leg, the Englishman catastrophically hit the big 17 when trying to split 11, giving Wright an opportunity he gratefully grasped, pinning 75 on double top for the win.
