"Purely on quality I should always make the playoffs" - Michael van Gerwen remains confident of finishing in Premier League Darts top 4

Michael van Gerwen was disappointingly defeated in the semifinals on Night 13 of the 2024 Premier League Darts in Liverpool. 'Mighty Mike' went down 6-2 against Rob Cross.

With just three nights to go, van Gerwen is still firmly in playoff contention. The Dutchman sits fourth in the table, four points ahead of number five Michael Smith, with only the top four securing a spot at finals night in a few weeks. "I'm definitely not worried," Van Gerwen told Viaplay. "If I don't make it I have myself to blame completely, after all, purely on quality I should always make the playoffs."

"Only it doesn't always work out the way you want it to," the 35-year-old Dutchman continued. "Then it's up to me to pull out all the stops and be very sharp in the next three weeks." Van Gerwen has only Smith as a remaining competitor for fourth place. "Today I did good business, but again last week I didn't. So it can turn around every match day."
