The 2025 Darts year can already be called historic. Not because of one player dominating everything, but precisely because of the enormous breadth of the level on the PDC Pro Tour. Never before have we seen so many different winners and finalists as we have this season. With 25 different players taking a Pro Tour title, and 40 different darters who managed to reach at least one final, 2025 is in the books as a record year.

Comparison with previous years

To put these numbers in proper perspective, it is interesting to look back at previous seasons. In 2024, the Pro Tour recorded 24 different winners and 37 different finalists. That was already proof at the time that the level was incredibly close, but 2025 thus adds to it.
Looking further back to 2022, we see that back then there were "only" 21 different winners and 39 different finalists. Even then, connoisseurs were already talking about an unprecedented spread, but the current year proves that the darts landscape has only become wider and stronger.

What does this say about current darts?

The numbers are not just statistics; they tell a larger story about the evolution of the sport. Where in the past often one or two players dominated the Pro Tour - think Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen or in later years Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright - we now see a generation where dozens of players are capable of winning tournaments.
This means that spectators can be surprised weekly by unexpected names in finals. For the established top players, it is a signal that they must show their best play to get to the final stage of a tournament at all. For young talents and outsiders, on the contrary, it offers opportunities: the gap between the top and the subtop seems smaller than ever.

For players, this trend means that there are no more easy draws. Every opponent on the floor can be dangerous and title chances are therefore difficult to predict. For fans, on the other hand, this provides extra excitement and thrills. Where before there were often the same faces in finals, we now see a much more varied field of participants. That makes following the Pro Tour more attractive than ever.
Bookmakers and analysts also have their hands full: predictions are becoming increasingly difficult, precisely because so many different players are capable of grabbing finals and titles.

Possible reasons for this

There are several reasons why there are so many different winners and finalists in 2025:
  1. Increasing number of talented players: Youth training programs in England, the Netherlands and Germany, among others, are bearing fruit. Young talent is knocking on the door of the top faster.
  2. Professionalization: More players can make a full-time living from darts, raising the overall level.
  3. Mental resilience: Modern darts coaching focuses more on mental training, making players more resilient to pressure moments.
  4. Competitive calendar: The large number of tournaments gives more players opportunities to showcase themselves and gain experience.
2025 has not yet ended, yet it is already going down in the history books as a unique year in darts. With 25 different Pro Tour winners and 40 different finalists, the sport is no longer the playing field of a handful of superstars, but an open battle in which almost anyone can surprise.
