Later this evening,
Rob Cross and
Luke Humphries will face off in the quarter-finals of the
European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen after both secured victory in the last 16 this afternoon.
In his last 16 tie, Cross faced off against former UK Open champion
Danny Noppert. Although it was the Dutchman who took the opening leg in 15 darts, from there, it was all about Rob Cross. Not at his best, averaging 91.14 'Voltage' reeled off the final six legs in succession to breeze past Noppert and into the quarter-finals.
Then, in a battle of two of the most in-form players in world darts today, Luke Humphries faced off with
Stephen Bunting. With both players immediately finding top gear, the first four legs all went with throw in no more than 15 darts. Making his move, Bunting then broke the world champion in leg five and after holding in the following leg with a stunning 140 checkout, 'the Bullet' moved 4-2 up.
Humphries though, bounced back strongly to return fire with two straight legs of his own and level things back up at 4-4. After Bunting then missed a chance to go back ahead in leg 9, Humphries punished ruthlessly on double 16 to hold throw and move one away. With Humphries waiting on 41 for the match, the Englishman must have hoped for a chance. Bunting though, did not allow him, pinning 81 to keep himself alive. In the deciding leg, Humphries had the throw and the world champ took advantage to nail victory in 14 darts.
