Rob Cross has joined the last eight at the World Darts Championship with a 4-0 victory over Jonny Clayton. It is the first time since 2018 for 'Voltage' to reach the quarter-finals at Alexandra Palace. That year, by the way, he became world champion on his World Championship debut.
Cross was not troubled in any set by Clayton, who did not exceed an average of 90. With a 140 finish and a 13-darter, the first set went 3-1 to Cross. With two 15-darters and a 14-darter, the second set went 3-0 to the darter from Hastings, England.

Clayton then took the first leg of set three, but had to surrender this set 3-1 as well. Only in the fourth set did Clayton manage to win two legs in one set, but that was after Cross had missed six match darts. In the fifth leg of the fourth set, Cross used his seventh match dart to qualify for the last eight in London.
On Sunday, January 1, Cross will face his compatriot Chris Dobey in the quarterfinals. The latter caused a sensation at the last sixteen by eliminating defending champion Michael Smith 4-0.
