Scott Williams has earned himself the right to take on
Michael van Gerwen in the quarter-finals of the
World Darts Championship. At the last sixteen, 'Shaggy' was too strong for
Damon Heta 4-1 in sets.
The score may have been well in Williams' favour, but in reality, the match was much closer. In legs, the score was only 13-10 in favour of the Englishman.
Heta was ahead by a break in the first set, but was not out within five visists in the fourth. He was broken back by a 66 finish from Williams, who then took his own set with a 17-darter. In the second set Heta did manage to reward himself. Thanks to a 12-darter, "The Heat" brought the score to 1-1. Set three was not decided until the fifth leg. Heta started with a 180 and was the first to throw for the set. However, the Australian left three set darts come and go. Williams was alert and struck via double 6.
The missed doubles also broke Heta in the fourth set. First, he missed two chances to win the first leg. Then there were two misses to lead 2-1 and finally Heta could not finish in six visits in the fourth leg. With a 20-darter Williams was able to take the set 3-1. In the fifth set Heta again had chances, but he could not use his four set arrows. Williams took the opportunity and then decided the match with a 17-darter in the fifth leg of set five.
