The 16 remaining players continue to battle for the title at the 2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy in Budapest on Sunday. Eight former major winners are still competing for the title at this European Tour tournament. Sunday afternoon starts a jam-packed final day with the eighth finals, before the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final take place in the evening.
We start the session with the defending champion in Budapest. Dave Chisnall took the title at last year's Hungarian Darts Trophy by beating Luke Humphries 8-7 in the final. ‘Chizzy’ qualified for the third round by beating Jonny Clayton 6-1. Chisnall will cross swords with Daryl Gurney, who won 6-5 against Florian Hempel in the second round.
In the quarter-finals, Peter Wright and Chisnall could face each other for the third European Tour tournament in a row. ‘Snakebite’ still has to beat Ryan Searle first, after the Scot treated Damon Heta to a whitewash earlier. Searle also had an easy start. He beat Alberto Bezjian 6-1.
Wessel Nijman is the first Dutchman to take the stage on Sunday afternoon. After his sensational 6-5 victory over Gerwyn Price, World Championship semi-finalist Scott Williams is now his opponent. Williams himself was responsible for the elimination of Chris Dobey (6-4).
We will see at least one Dutchman in the quarter-finals, as Danny Noppert and Gian van Veen face each other in the fourth match of the afternoon. Noppert won 6-4 against Nathan Aspinall in the second round, while Van Veen dealt with Keane Barry (6-4). Both Dutchmen have met three times already this year; Noppert won twice and once the win went to Van Veen.
Ross Smith eliminated Raymond van Barneveld on Saturday night at the Hungarian Darts Trophy. As a result he earned a meeting with Ricardo Pietreczko. The German himself won against another Dutchman. He triumphed 6-5 against Niels Zonneveld.
Stephen Bunting also continues his tournament against a German player. On Saturday afternoon, his opponent Cor Dekker hit a nine darter, but Bunting claimed a 6-2 victory. Now he meets Martin Schindler, who was too strong for Jim Williams (6-5).
Michael van Gerwen gets the chance to revenge against Gabriel Clemens on Sunday afternoon. Two weeks back, ‘Mighty Mike’ lost to the German at the Flanders Darts Trophy. Van Gerwen had a good start on Saturday at the Hungarian Darts Trophy by beating Martin Lukeman 6-2 thanks to an average of 104. The Dutchman also produced a nine-darter in his first match at this event. Clemens caused a big surprise by eliminating reigning world champion Luke Humphries 6-5.
In the final match of the afternoon, Rob Cross and Josh Rock will battle against each other for a place in the last eight. Cross celebrated a 6-1 win over Andrew Gilding in the second round, while Rock survived eight matchdarts against James Wade.

TV and live stream

The Hungarian Darts Trophy will be broadcast on PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the Hungarian Darts Trophy consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12:00, while the evening sessions start at 18:00.
The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Order of Merit qualifiers and the winners from the various qualifying tournaments then make their appearance. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. Sunday will see the denouement of the tournament, starting with the third round in the afternoon session. Sunday evening will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Distribution of prize money

At this Euro Tour tournament, a total of £175,000 in prize money will be divided among the 48 participants. They will receive at least 1250 pounds in starting money. The top-16 seeded players who enter the Hungarian Darts Trophy from the second round will receive 2,500 pounds anyway.
They do - like the 16 Order of Merit qualifiers starting in the first round - have to win their first match in order for the prize money to count toward the world rankings and the other rankings. The winner of the Hungarian Darts Trophy eventually goes home with the top prize of 30,000 pounds.
