Scott Williams has strutted into the his second major quarterfinal at the 2024
Players Championship Finals, fighting back against Jeffrey De Graaf for a 10-8 victory in Minehead.
De Graaf had won handsomely over Ryan Searle (6-5) and Thibault Tricole (6-3) earlier in the tournament, while Williams was responsible for eliminating Gian van Veen (6-5) and Kim Huybrechts (6-4).
In the fifth leg Williams, managed to throw a 110 finish. A 25 check-out followed, giving the Englishman a 4-2 lead. By throwing out 141 and 103, De Graaf came back to 4-4 and then even went into the break with a 6-4 lead.
After the break, however, De Graaf immediately lost his break again due to a fantastic 170 finish by Williams. 'Shaggy' then also threw a 14-darter to make it 6-6. Three more breaks followed in a row, two of them in Williams' favor. The semifinalist of the last World Darts Championship held his own leg with a 121 finish and moved to 9-7. De Graaf closed to 8-9 via a 61 finish before Williams decided the match with a 16-darter.
On the main stage,
Connor Scutt cruised into the last eight eliminating Daryl Gurney. 'Superchin' was responsible for eliminating both Peter Wright and Michael Smith earlier in the tournament, but lost by a whopping 10-3 to Scutt. For the Englishman, it is the first time he has been in the last eight at a PDC major.
