Beau Greaves may have lost tonight to Luke Humphries but the three-time Women's World Champion pushed the World No.1 all the way and he lavished praise on her in a post match interview with ITV.
Humphries said that in the future she has the game to match himself, Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen but is cautious about heaping the pressure on. Greaves has often exhibited incredible talent but has always wanted to grow into the game at her pace instead of doing everything at once.
She has honed her craft on the WDF circuit and now is playing more PDC darts where she is currently top of the Challenge Tour, Women's Series and Development Tour. The likelihood is one may lead to an opportunity to join the elite game. Today has shown that she certainly has the game to do so.
"I really enjoyed the game. It's what I said to Beau afterwards. I really enjoyed it, it was great fun. I think she dropped off at the end that's what she said. It's a long format, she's probably not used to playing those long formats. She was a fantastic player there and she really had to bring out the best in me," said Humphries.
Greaves was also part of the interview and discussed her own display. "I set off well and I knew towards the end of the match I dropped off a bit. That's what I'm trying to work to be better at. Those longer formats I'm not used to but what an experience."
"To play someone like Luke, it's amazing for my game and it'll bring me on a long way. I'm really pleased even though I lost. I'm watching these sort of players on the telly all the time. It's nice to be there. I just enjoy watching him throw in a weird way. It's a learning curve and I've had a good day."
But Humphries sees a bright future in Greaves and said he sees Premier League in around five years time albeit like alluded to being very cautious about putting too much of a label on what she will do.
"Definitely she belongs in big time darts. The ladies game is growing and it's because of her. She belongs in this environment. She really did test me there. She just needs to give herself time, maybe five years I think she'll be in Premier Leagues."
"I think she's a top 64 player in the world right now. I don't want to put the pressure on her. The next few years, she'll find she's got the level to match me, Luke (Littler) and Michael (Van Gerwen) and over the next few years I'm going to be sure that I'll be sharing the stage with her a lot more."
"She belongs in big time darts!"
