With the 2025 World Matchplay getting underway next Saturday in it's iconic home of the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, that also means preparation is stepping up for the best female darters ahead of the Women's World Matchplay.
The premier event in women's darts on the PDC side of things, the 2025 edition of the Women's World Matchplay will take place on the afternoon of Sunday the 27th of July, and according to women's darting icon Trina Gulliver, defending champion Beau Greavds will once again be the player to beat.
"To be honest, everybody’s trying to catch up with Beau. Beau’s the superstar at the moment — she’s playing fantastic stuff and she’s the one to catch," Gulliver explains to the MODUS Super Series' YouTube channel. "Not only is she doing it on the PDC Tour, she's doing it on the Development Tour and the Challenge Tour as well. What she's achieving now is just making the way forward for the rest of us girls — and she's doing a great job."
"Beau is leading the way. She seems to be miles ahead of anybody at the moment," continues Gulliver, clarifying her thought process. "When she's at the top of her game, she's very hard to beat."
As for challengers to Greaves' throne, first point of call is the inaugural Women's World Matchplay champion Fallon Sherrock. "Yeah, Fallon’s always in the mix, isn’t she? Another tough player," Gulliver analyses. "But there are no easy games up there. Those top eight players are there for a reason — they’ve earned their places."
Gulliver also casts her eye over the hopes of multiple-time Women's world champion Lisa Ashton. "She’s not in pain anymore — or she wasn’t the last time I spoke to her. She’s got over that bit and she’s trying to work herself back into it," analyses 'The Golden Girl'.

Gulliver does though, want to see the World Matchplay start to become more of a bigger event. Currently, just eight players battle it out over one afternoon at the Winter Gardens, but Gulliver believes there is much room for growth when it comes to the PDC's leading women's showcase.
"I’d like to see it expand. Whether that’s to 12 or 16, I don’t know — but yeah, I think it could. The format works at the moment, but there are top players just missing out. There’s a lot more strength in depth now, so there’s definitely an argument for extending it," she says. "There are top players getting top results. It’s going to be really interesting. I don’t think it’ll be as cut and dry as some people think — but you never know. It’s all on the day, isn’t it?" Gulliver concludes.
