Michael Smith is through to the semi-finals of the European Championship after victory over Jeffrey de Zwaan where he pounced on multiple missed doubles from his opponent.

De Zwaan played brilliantly on the scoring but missed 21 darts at doubles allowing Smith an easier path through to the semi-finals. A lot has been made of the St Helens ace not winning a major title yet; it could be his time as he faces either Vincent van der Voort or Gerwyn Price later.
It was close between the duo to start the clash with De Zwaan playing so well but just not having the joy on the doubles; as Smith went 3-2 up at the first break.
Smith continued to keep De Zwaan at arms length hitting an excellent 118 checkout; he went on a roll from there smashing in three legs running to go 6-3 up.
Like alluded to, De Zwaan was superb on the scoring and that showed with seven maximums at the break but he was 6-4 down after 15 missed darts at doubles.
Smith went further clear at 8-4 up and despite De Zwaan claiming a leg back, Smith stormed to victory after JDZ had missed multiple chances to get further back into the tie.
