Smith secures back-to-back wins over Van Gerwen, Price edges Wade in hard fought victory

The second semi-final is set on the final night of regular season action in Premier League Darts featuring two players who missed out on the play-offs having one final flourish in Newcastle.

For a third week running, it was Michael Smith facing Michael van Gerwen and it is back-to-back victories for 'Bully Boy' over 'The Green Machine' who lost out 6-4 albeit already being qualified well in advance for the Berlin play-offs.

Van Gerwen moved ahead early on he produced a 155 checkout but Smith followed up with a 114 checkout to go 3-2 up before hitting a 78 checkout to back that up.

He continued to maintain his advantage from there and was soon one away with double nine. Van Gerwen took out 74 to keep himself in the tie but was relying on Smith missing chances to win and the St Helens ace produced double 20 to not hand him that opportunity.

Next up is Gerwyn Price who similarly narrowly missed out on the play-offs as he saw off James Wade who will be heading to Berlin in June.

Price sailed into a 5-2 lead early on against Wade but missed one match dart and a comeback was threatened but in the end 'The Iceman' froze out 'The Machine' 6-4 to move through with the other semi-final seeing Jonny Clayton face Joe Cullen.
