Gerwyn Price has risen to second place in the Premier League Darts 2025 rankings after claiming the weekly title on Thursday night in Dublin during the third round of play.
The evening started with a convincing win for Luke Humphries, who, with an average of 103.51, was too strong for the still-pointless Stephen Bunting (6-4). Price faced a tough battle against Luke Littler but emerged victorious with an average of 102.64 and a 6-4 win.
Nathan Aspinall secured his first Premier League victory of the season by defeating Rob Cross 6-3, while Michael van Gerwen edged out Chris Dobey 6-4 in a thrilling encounter. In the semi-finals, Price impressed by defeating Humphries, the winner of the second round, 6-3. ‘Cool Hand Luke’ was unable to maintain his quarter-final form and managed only a 93.56 average. Price took full advantage and secured his spot in the final.
The other semi-final brought another surprise. Aspinall defeated Van Gerwen 6-3, preventing ‘Mighty Mike’ from reaching the final. The Englishman threw impressively with a 99.22 average, forcing Van Gerwen to chase, but ultimately, he fell short.
In the final, Price showed that he is steadily regaining his top form of recent years. With an average of 100.57 and strong finishes, he defeated Aspinall 6-3 and claimed the weekly title at the 3Arena.
Thanks to his victory, Price climbs to second place in the standings with seven points, trailing leader Humphries, who has collected ten points after three rounds. Van Gerwen is now at six points, while Littler remains stuck at five. Aspinall moves up to a shared fifth place with three points, alongside Chris Dobey. Cross sits in seventh place with two points, while Bunting remains pointless at the bottom.

I don't honestly see the point of the premier league. All it does is alienate the players that aren't in it. The PDC calendar is full enough without this round and round pointless tournament.
