The PDC World Darts Championship has been over for almost a week now. Time to take a look at the statistics. They clearly show that this edition was not as high as last year's edition in Alexandra Palace.
Luke Littler made history at the last World Darts Championship by becoming the youngest player ever to become world champion. The 17-year-old Englishman defeated Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final. Littler posted an average of 102.73 in the final compared to the Dutchman's 100.69.
'The Nuke' ended up playing six matches at the last World Championship and in five of them he achieved a 100+ average, only in his third-round match against Ian White did he get stuck on an average of 97.84.
Lower tournament average
The overall tournament average this year was 91.89. That is relatively lower than last year's 92.59. We had the highest tournament average in 2018, when it clocked in at 94.69. It should be mentioned, however, that the World Darts Championship was played then with 64 participants versus the 96 this year.
What stands out is that in just about every round the average was lower than last year, only in the quarterfinals was the average slightly higher this year.
