Steve Beaton defeated in final UK Open as magnificent Menzies averages 102 in Tricole win

With Steve Beaton's final year starting, it will be a lot of last tournaments and it is a final UK Open for a player who has been an ever present for so long in Minehead after being defeated by Josh Payne.
In the final leg, Payne dispatched of Beaton who was making his 22nd appearance in the tournament in a 6-5 win hitting a 180 and 80 checkout for the win. But while Beaton has been 'beaten', Cameron Menzies has not. The majestic Scot averaged 103 hitting 50% on the doubles and a high checkout of 136 in a 6-3 success over Thibault Tricole.
To conclude the Main Stage action was a player very adept to the big stage in Leonard Gates. He thrashed Jim Williams 6-2 taking advantage of 2/6 on the outer ring from the Welshman.
Elsewhere, Scott Mitchell thumped in a 156 checkout to defeat Matthew Dennant in a decider 6-5. Other wins came from the superb Patrick Geeraets who thrashed Jeffrey de Zwaan 6-1 with a 101 average.
Graham Usher returned to defeat Ronny Huybrechts 6-3, while there was also wins for Florian Hempel, Daniel Klose, Tim Wolters and Ricardo Pietreczko out of the German contingent. Adam Gawlas who reached the semi-final last year won 6-0, while Danny Lauby continued his run with a 6-2 win over Jacques Labre.
