The second weekend of the CDLC Tour produced another exciting battle, with
Rashad Sweeting and Jesus Salate once again taking the lead. In the Bahamas, both darters managed to win a tournament each, keeping the title fight towards the decisive final weekend blood-curdling.
Similar to the opening weekend in Panama, in which both players took one title each, Jesus Salate started the third tournament of the CDLC Tour strongly. With 33 players at the start, the Argentine started convincingly, thanks to big wins over George Patterson (6-0), Kilroy Wilson (6-2) and Wayne Copeland (6-1). With that, he easily qualified for the semifinals, where another showdown with home favorite Rashad Sweeting awaited.
In that duel, Salate showed why he is considered one of the big contenders to win the final ranking. With an average of 89, he gave his rival no chance and sent him home with a convincing 6-0. In the final, the Argentinian faced Norman Madhoo, who had been too strong for compatriot Sudesh Fitzgerald after a blistering 6-5 match.
The final became an exhibition match by Salate. He won the first five legs in a row, including a 15-darter and a great 101 finish. Madhoo managed to take one more leg thanks to a 180 score and a 19-darter, but the final chord was for Salate. A stunning 147 finish completed his second tournament victory of the season in impressive fashion.
Sweeting strikes back and grabs second title
A day later, the tournament had a new chapter in the rivalry between the two bantams. Rashad Sweeting was clearly eager for revenge. In a field of 34 players, he steamed convincingly through to the semifinals, ceding just one leg in three games. Shane Sawyer (6-1), Justin Snisky (6-0) and Kianno Miller (6-0) could offer little resistance to the solid playing Sweeting.
The semifinals again featured the top match Sweeting against Salate. Salate started strong and led 3-1 and later 4-2, but Sweeting showed character and fought back with legs of 13 and 15 darts. At 4-4, the match tilted completely. Sweeting took the lead and, despite a deciding leg in which Salate threw a maximum, finished the game with a 17-darter.
In the final, Sweeting comfortably took a 6-3 win against Madhoo, securing his second CDLC title of the year. Thanks to this win, he also recaptured the lead in the standings, although the margin on Salate remains minimal heading into the final weekend.
