The darts world has gained another standout talent, and this time he comes from a very well-known family. Tai Anderson, the 12-year-old son of two-time world champion
Gary Anderson, has signed a multi-year deal with darts manufacturer L-Style.
The young Anderson has recently been impressing on the youth circuit, particularly in the
Junior Darts Corporation (JDC), where he is rapidly emerging as one of the most promising players of his generation.
The deal with L-Style is seen as an important step in his fledgling career.
The manufacturer announced the news on social media: “Locked in. Tai Anderson signs a multi-year deal with L-style! He’s trusted our gear by choice for years. Now we’re officially backing his career alongside his Unicorn tungsten. The Anderson pedigree speaks for itself. Let’s get to work, Tai!”
Talent with a famous surname
Although the name Anderson immediately raises expectations in the darts world, Tai seems to embrace that pressure with ease. According to his father, it is mainly his own dedication that stands out.
“I was having a laugh with Tai. The way wee Tai’s playing now and I do not practice with him. He does it all himself. He puts in his own practice," Gary Anderson said previously. “Monday night, he plays in a pub, a tournament. Tuesday, he plays for a pub. Thursday, he plays JDC. Friday, he plays for a pub. And Saturday, Sunday, he plays tournaments and he does it all off his own back.”
Dream: father versus son at the Worlds
Gary Anderson, now 55, revealed at the end of last year that he would like to extend his career until he is 60. Not only out of love for the sport, but also with a special goal in mind: a meeting with his son on darts’ biggest stage, the World Championship at Alexandra Palace. “There is a chance, yeah. If I make 60 and can stand upright, but there is a chance.”
The thought captures the imagination: a father-son duel at the highest level, in front of a packed crowd at Ally Pally.
While the scenario sounds like a dream to many, Anderson makes it clear there is no room for sentiment on stage. ““Would you beat your son up there, though? Yeah, of course I would! He wouldn’t have talked to me for the rest of my life!"
Gary Anderson became world champion in 2015 and 2016
Bright future?
With his recent performances and now a professional sponsorship deal, Tai Anderson appears to be on the right track. Within the JDC he is said to have already opened up a sizable lead over his rivals, underscoring his status as a top prospect.
Even so, the step to the absolute world elite remains a big one. History shows that talent alone is not enough; perseverance, experience, and mental resilience are just as important. But if Tai maintains his current trajectory, the darts world might be gearing up for a special chapter: a new Anderson on the big stage.
And who knows, perhaps Gary’s dream will truly come to pass: a head-to-head at the Worlds, with not only pride but also family honor on the line.
