Later tonight, the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship finally gets underway at the Alexandra Palace in London. For 96 of the world's best darters, the time to perform has arrived. Every year, there is always one name who comes from the pack to make a surprisingly deep run and ex-pro turned pundit Matthew Edgar thinks he knows who that man could be this year.
"There's value everywhere (to potential bettors). But one thing I would say, is stay away from the top half of the draw. Reason being, you've got the two Lukes (Humphries and Littler ed.) and you've got some real hard hitting seed there that are in good form," analyses Edgar, himself a three-time PDC World Darts Championship competitor, for OLBG. "So if you're looking for value, look at the bottom half."

After having scanned the bottom half of the draw himself, Edgar had picked out a potential dark horse. "I've got a really surprising one actually and I just think the draw could really open up for this player," he explains tantalisingly. "He's a player who's been around for a long time on the professional scene, who's never really had a crowning moment. He got to the final of the World Cup, he had a good run at the UK Open a couple of years ago..."
So who is this mystery man? "I wouldn't be surprised to see William O'Connor go on a bit of a run here," Edgar finally reveals. "Completely out of left field, 500-1, you'd think, surely not? But the way the draw could open up for William O'Connor, I think he could exploit that. And if he plays the game I know he's got, he could be someone at value.
In the opening round at the Alexandra Palace, O'Connor faces off against Dylan Slevin on the evening of Friday, December 20th.
