Gerwyn Price is currently in New York, where the Welshman will be in action this weekend at the US Darts Masters. In the opening round, he will take on Dutch American Jules van Dongen.
Price was also there last year at the US Darts Masters, where he lost 6-4 to Luke Humphries in the quarterfinals. "The atmosphere was fantastic," said the 39-year-old Welshman. "It's an iconic venue. For someone like myself, from a small village in Wales, to be able to play in Madison Square Garden [shows] how far this sport has come."
Last week Price was not there in the Premier League Darts playoffs, yet he had enjoyed Luke Littler's final win. "He's a great ambassador already, and he's only been playing in the PDC for the past five months or so,' he said. "The fans have gotten much better, and [we get] bigger audiences since he's been involved. So I think it can only get better and better."
"Hopefully, he can continue to play as well as he is because he keeps the interest," Price added. "There's a lot of youngsters coming through as well - fingers crossed, there'll be a lot more Luke Littlers coming out to the PDC."
Gerwyn Price is currently fourth in the world rankings
Ambassador
Price sees himself as an ambassador for the sport, especially at the World Series of Darts. "Obviously, it's much bigger in the UK and Europe but the PDC are doing a brilliant job traveling the world,' Price said. 'Especially to America, in the USA, to New York, to promote this sport better.
"Over the last couple of years, I've seen it grow massively and there's a lot of Canadian and American players that are coming over and joining the pro tour. There's a lot of room for improvement in the US and over the next couple of years it will continue to grow and grow and hopefully as big as it is in the UK.
"We come to New York, we went to Vegas, we've gone to Dubai. We went to Bahrain at the beginning of the year. So it's great being part of the PDC and promote it as best as we can.'
