"This just comes across as very amateurish to the rest of the world" - Michael van Gerwen lashes out at Viaplay for post-match interview setting

The sixth night of Premier League Darts ended in disappointment for Michael van Gerwen. The 34-year-old Dutchman went down 6-2 against Rob Cross in the quarter-finals. Afterwards, however, he was particularly upset about the way he had to give an interview.

Van Gerwen had to comment afterwards to Viaplay via a video link and he did not like that at all. "(Dutch journalist) Arjan van der Giessen was in England, why isn't he here? This is a nice message to you guys. They should just send people to England. Now it has to be via laptop and last week I also looked like a moron. I really hate that, via laptop. I hate that more than my own game," Van Gerwen said.

"If you can't understand me, it's because of that laptop," Van Gerwen continued. "This just comes across as very amateurish to the rest of the world. We darters come from very far away and then this is just terrible with a laptop like this. This also makes no sense to interview losers, because nothing meaningful comes out of it."

Poor preparation

'Mighty Mike' did not have a good preparation anyway. Last weekend he struggled with a shoulder injury and yesterday his flight was delayed. "Yesterday was not a nice preparation. I had a six and a half hour delay at Schiphol Airport, so I didn't get to my hotel here until 2 a.m.. That's also part of it when you travel a lot. I understand you want to leave it at that."
